Picture Book Salon: "The Muéganos" with Jaque Jours

  • Transit Books 1250 Addison St Berkeley, CA United States (map)

Join us at Transit HQ for our first picture book edition of the Transit Book Club Salon, an intimate event series featuring behind-the-scenes discussions of Transit titles.

Next Friday's event features a conversation with Jaque Jours, author and illustrator of the quintuple-starred picture book The Muéganos, a delectably sweet story about the unbreakable bonds of family. She'll discuss the process of making the book—and its path to publication—with her editor, Adam Levy.

While kids are always welcome, this will be a craft and publishing event intended for adults.

Whether you’re an emerging illustrator, an experienced artist, or picture book enthusiast, this event offers a behind-the-scenes look at the craft of making literary books for young readers.

Jaque Jours is a Mexican illustrator and writer based in Texas. In 2023, she received a FONCA fellowship to write and illustrate her debut picture book, The Muéganos. Jaque studied Architecture & Interior Design, and she holds a Master’s Degree in Literature. Both things led her to discover her passion for painting, writing, and illustrating books. Jaque is also the poster artist for the 2026 Brooklyn Book Festival.

Adam Levy is the copublisher of Transit Books, an independent publisher of international and American literature, and Transit Children’s Editions, its imprint for young readers. His authors have received the Nobel Prize in Literature, a National Book Critics Circle Award, and the PEN Translation Prize.
