What does your shape look like? In The Muéganos, a family that’s literally glued together comes apart when the eldest daughter breaks off to find her own path. In this hands-on workshop with author-illustrator Jaque Jours, kids make a self-portrait unlike any other, starting from a piece of paper torn into a shape only they could fit into.

Jaque Jours is a Mexican illustrator and writer based in Texas. In 2023, she received a FONCA fellowship to write and illustrate her debut picture book, The Muéganos. Jaque studied Architecture & Interior Design, and she holds a Master’s Degree in Literature. Both things led her to discover her passion for painting, writing, and illustrating books. Jaque is also the poster artist for the 2026 Brooklyn Book Festival.
